Sensor City’s dedicated LCR 4.0 team has grown recently thanks to the appointment of two female engineers.

Electronics Engineer, Zipporah Mayik, has joined the team to help Liverpool city region businesses embrace digital technologies which will strengthen and ultimately futureproof their operations.

With a background in IoT applications, Zipporah has a wide range of expertise covering the implementation and installation of new radio networks, wireless communications and control systems.

She is currently working with a local SME to develop an image processing application and is also exploring new printed circuit board (PCB) designs using Sensor City’s specialist LPKF laboratory equipment.

Another new starter is Naiara Ferrer, who is undertaking a five-month internship within the LCR 4.0 team at Sensor City.

Having trained as a Biomedical Engineer, Naiara is now focusing on biomedical sensing projects to assist SMEs using a range of accelerometers and open-source electronic prototyping platforms.

The LCR 4.0 team at Sensor City also comprises a Product Design Engineer, Industrial Software Specialist, Industrial Systems Specialist, Marketing Manager and newly appointed Project Support Officer, Tracy Tunstall.

Together, the team provides funded support to manufacturing organisations and their supply chains in the Liverpool City Region, who are looking to grow and increase efficiency using digital technologies. Recent assists for SMEs have included digital marketing support, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing for CE marking and sensor system prototype development.

The pioneering LCR 4.0 programme, which has previously been praised as a ‘best practice initiative’ in the Government’s Made Smarter Review, is on track to help 300 regional SMEs explore the challenges and opportunities of Industry 4.0 (4IR) technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality, Internet of Things and cloud computing, increasing productivity and de-risking innovation.
